I'm not sure whether these applications are accessible for blind or not since I'm not using IPhone or IPod. but this is just a piece of information I just went through and wanted to share with you all.

YOUR PHONE WILL SAY IT ALL Apps can help guide you to achieving your fitness goals.

A slew of mobile apps is available for free to help keep track of one's health parameters. So the next time you hit the gym, don't just take your gloves and water bottle along with you. Your smart phone could be a vital accessory too, writes KARTHIK SUBRAMANIAN

From tracking your cardio and weight training at your gym to helping keep a tab on your diet, there are plenty of mobile applications (Apps) that could help you lead a healthy lifestyle. Here are some Apps that could be a good addition to your personal App library on your mobile device.

Instant Heart Rate Monitor

The heart rate monitor is a great App, especially for those heavy cardio workout days. Users have to place their finger on the camera of their smartphone to instantly measure their heart rates. The Instant Heart Rate Monitor developed by Azumio is highly recommended, and is top rated in both the iPhone and the Android markets. There is a Lite version that is available for free and does most of the things needed.

Jog Tracker

For those who prefer outdoor training, there are some cool Apps available to track your jogging route, and provide you with the information on how many calories have been burnt. What's more you can even share your jogging route and results with your friends on your social networks. Two Apps are worth trying out in the genre: the JogTracker that combines the benefits of GPS and Maps to track the routes, records in real time the speed and calculates the calories burnt. Check www.jogtracker.com to learn more. The other interesting App for the Android mobile is the My Tracks app available for download on mytracks.appspot.com.

Workout Apps

There are several apps available in this genre but my favourite is the Jefit Personal Trainer, an end-to-end fitness trainer app that allows you to establish a weight-training routine. It even supplements it with animation on how to do the workouts. You can build your own routine and Jefit logs will allow you to keep track of your progress in your gym. Though it does not entirely replace the personal trainer, it surely is a very nifty App to have. Check www.jefit.com to learn more. Once again, there is a premium version available. But there are enough features in the free version for regular gym workouts.

Meal trackers

What's the point of a good workout without a good diet backing it up? There are plenty of calorie counters available for all mobile platforms. The one I find most interesting is the Calorific, the meal tracking App from Worksmart Labs. You have to enter every meal you have had in the day in the App, and it provides some much-needed motivation those who want to lose weight need. It is a smart, even if innocuous, App that can do a lot. Check www.worksmartlabs.com to learn more not just about Calorific but also a few other smart health apps. If the app is not to your liking, just do a keyword search on “calorie counters” in the Android marketplace to discover more.

hope this helps.

Bad, bad, bad. Lol As a person who is in to keeping fit as a way of life this smartphone deal will only get in the way. Lock the damn thing in your locker, with the battery out, and the case closed. If you have it with you you'll be tempted to Facebook, tweet, talk, text, answer that email that just came in, check the time, check your heart rate as suggested, but that will take time, because you'll be figuring it all out, and you'll never get a proper workoug. May as well go to Starbucks, have a good coffee and play with your device. Far more productive as far as your smartphone goes.

Best thing on the iPod is Pandora: I have a workout station and agree when too busy working out who wants the push notify from a young lmfao-texting tweety-bird ... or in my case also, the occasional notify from Command? Well good idea to be lookin at those but they can wait till after the workout generally.
Seriously though there is a halfway decent Step Tracker called StepTrak Lite - that doesn't have a c it's just a k for speech users
I don't really like putzing with my device if I want to mentally get away, go for a good run and bust my ass.
I have heard of people running and texting / tweeting/ something like that - probably something most this tweet-texting population on here does. But other than Pandora I'm with the last poster: Set Notifies Off when you go hit it.

I actually like the nike+iPod app the iPhone comes with. You just run with your music in the background so you don't get bored and just keep track of how long you're running and how fast you run and how many calories you burn.

I've been in gyms were have the people on the trade mills are carrying on a conversation. Now, if you are really running, and I mean sweating and all, how the world do you keep up a phone conversation? Lol I'll allow the music, but most gyms provide that too, so ditch that bthing with your street clothes. Lol

I thought with Nike you had to buy the sensor to go in your shoe? Am I wrong about this? Would love to start using it with Pandora pounding away the workout metal in the background.

Damn right. When it comes to my sweat I want nothing between me and the iron mistress. I get my workout plan set before I start, and I know I've done it well when my body feels tight, sweaty, muscles tingle, and I'm generally tired. Don't need a gadget to tell me this, but my fine I phone, or whatever doesn have to get all sweaty, or possible dropped and then smashed with the weights I'm using. Some sweats, a T shirt, shoes, water, and the iron mistress is all I need.

So you are saying you can pay attenchen to your shoes to get told you aren't sweating enough, so need to run or lift more?? Where is the monitor on these, on the toes?Hell, you could run in to a bus watching your shoes on a jog. Talk about ruining all that healthy effect. Lol
